About Joe: Her name isn't
Joann or Jodi or even Jo. It's Joe with an E and don't you forget it.
Joe was orphaned at the young age of three. She lived at the Blue Tulip House
for Orphaned Children for 8 years until she was employed by Captain Vivianne.
The orphanage was across the way from the shipyard. Since she was little, Joe
went to watch the activities at the shipyard. She took a large interest in the
art of repairing and building ships. Even though she could grasp all the concepts,
she was never allowed on the premises of the shipyard. When she was found, they'd
promptly grab her by the scruff of her shirt and throw her out to the street.
So everyday, she made it a game to sneak into the shipyard and watch what they
did.
At the age of 11, Joe knew just as much as the Shipwright did, if not more.
So when she saw a female captain for the first time approach the Shipwright,
she was intrigued. She listened in on their conversation. To her surprise, the
Shipwright was charging the female captain twice as much as any other male captain!
When the captain paid for the repairs and headed off to the pub, Joe followed.
At the pub, she gathered her wits and approached the blonde captain sitting
at a table full of other rowdy women.
"You know he's overcharging you." she stated, staring at the captain
with an unblinking gaze.
"Yea, I know... they all do. But what can one do? I don't know how to do
those extensive repairs on my ship." the captain shrugged and several others
nodded.
Joe pursed her lips and after a long pause committed herself. "Lemme do
it."
The captain gave her a funny look and her crew laughed. They didn't believe
a little thing like her could repair a huge brig. After Joe raised her voice
over the ruckus to declare otherwise, the captain held out her hand to silence
her crew.
"You can do it?" she tested, "Seriously."
"Well..." Joe bit her lip, "I'll need your whole crew to help
me, but I know how to do it. I guarantee you."
The captain looked her up and down as her crewmembers muttered against it. "Well
hell. What can it hurt?" the captain smirked. The girl was sure of herself,
and that's all the captain needed.
It took a little longer than the captain would have liked and a day extra to
threaten the Shipwright for her money back, but the ship was repaired and in
better condition than she'd ever seen it and she got her riches back. She paid
Joe for the repairs and thanked her many times, telling her she should persue
a career in shipbuilding. When the Grand Maylily set out to sail that evening,
Joe slipped onto the ship and stowed away in the storage room. What a better
way to learn shipbuilding than to actually be on a ship! It was so easy to sneak
on board since that's all she had done at the old shipyard. She just hoped that
the captain would be thankful enough to keep her aboard once she was found,
if she ever was.

Joe version 3! She is actually a mini girl I made using an A head. I'm not too
fond of the mini heads so I thought I'd try and see how this works. Looks okay
to me. Joe actually has 3 ponytails on her head...
