Name: Rhetoric Siegfried Cardinal Age: 27 Birthday: May 27th Occupation: Monster and Demon Bounty Hunter Favorite past-time: Researching or taking naps About Rhetoric: Rhetoric Cardinal is currently one of the most well known witch graduates at the IIEAA. By profession, Rhetoric is a bounty hunter who captures, seals or kills demons and monsters for a living. Many people at IIEAA know of him because he is always at the school researching or studying for his postgraduate studies. Occasionally, he is a guest lecturer for undergraduate studies in which he talks about his practical magic experiences. Rhetoric is popular with young students because his application of his magic is not only used daily but it’s offensive—something that is rarely used any more. In the recent years, there have been many regulations on the use of magic outside of personal use. Many students see him as an idol and a leader for the revival of functional magic although he hardly thinks anything of it. Rhetoric’s history is strong with magic. Both of his parents are doctors in magical studies: His father, Arthur, is a tenured professor of Ancient Tomes and Manuscripts at the Witch University of Salem. Rose, his mother, is a researcher of Cryptozoology at the Nepia Institute in Sri Lanka. Rhetoric had spent half his life in the USA, and the other half traveling with his parents to remote locations around the world in search of mythic beasts. Ever since he was a child Rhetoric had a strong interest in demons and manuscripts instilled by his parents. He found that “hunting” was exciting and the thrill of finding what you were searching for to be second to none. When he was in middle school, he had decided he wanted to be a demon hunter. His parents were very supportive of him (well, his mother was worried sick about such a dangerous profession choice, but still remained supportive) and arranged for him to study at the Interdimensional Institute for the Education of Arcane Arts. Rhetoric has attended IIEAA for 8 years now, gaining a Double Prime (equivalent to a Master’s degree) in Conjurations, Evocations and Mythos. He also gained a Prime in Necromancy and Enchantments. Most of these degrees he had worked on concurrently. He is currently working on his Double in Necromancy and his Triple in Mythos. Because of this, he is one of 12 people from the school to be given the official title of “Sorcerer”. When Rhetoric first began hunting, as extra income, he hunted ingredients for La Fortüna, a café and bakery that one of his classmates ran. Mima Oakstar would pay Rhetoric to bring her rare ingredients that she needed for some of her more complicated cakes. However when Mima suddenly passed away, the café was left without an owner and Rhetoric without an extra income. Now that the café has reopened, Rhetoric has once again offered his services to the new owner. Obviously, Rhetoric has an obsession with gaining knowledge of mythos to aid him in his work (his job being his second obsession). If he’s not hunting, he’s studying or conversing with his professor and friend, Verocher Legacé, about monsters. In his home in Massachusetts, he has a small but extensive library about demon mythos and several relics collected from his hunts. He also has a small laboratory to aid him with research and spends a lot of time recording his adventures and findings. He sends most of his findings to his mother in Sri Lanka for her research also. As a hobby, Rhetoric also likes collecting old magic tomes in which he hopes to learn more spells from and to share his findings with his father. He also feels that by him collecting these magical books that he preserves and holds them safely from demons and other crazy witches who might try to misuse them. Rhetoric is incredibly clever and a genius at magic and hunting, however he is generally somewhat standoffish and reticent. Given his profession, he fights all day and sometimes has a hard time adjusting to humans who he doesn’t have to fight or be a jerk to. Some people say he is socially inept but it’s just that a lot of people don’t understand his personality. To those he knows he’s generally a nice guy albeit a strong cynic with a good sense of sarcastic humor. But outside of that, he just comes off as lazy, apathetic, rude and unapproachable— especially to females, which oddly draws them even more to him. His parents continually worry about him. Rhetoric has a hardcore approach to his job and studies that have earned him such a good reputation at the IIEAA and helped his parents a lot with their jobs. However they wish he would take more time to socialize with other witches, more specifically with female witches. They fear he’ll be a single man all his life... and that fear is not without base-- Rhetoric, while having no problems attracting and acting on the opposite sex, does have a problem establishing any kind of meaningful relationship especially for long periods of time. Deep down inside, Rhetoric fears being put on a leash but does not like the idea of being alone for the rest of his life. He doesn’t believe there’s a girl out there that can really understand and tolerate him completely so, unfortunately for his parents, he doesn’t bother much with it. Rhetoric studies when he’s not on the field. When he’s not studying, he plays video games or cards, plays music and sleeps. He is very absorbed in his job so when he’s not working he tends to go lazy and brain dead. Besides being incredibly adept at magic, Rhetoric also has a very good memory. He only needs to see something once or twice to remember it down to the small details, if he chooses to. He tries not to fill his memory with useless information so he tends to take little interest in things around him when he’s not hunting. He’s also very good with cards, which is probably due to his memory. If he is really pressed for money, he’ll go gambling in which he can always win enough to feed himself. And, although it’s not a good talent, Rhetoric is absolutely amazingly awful at singing and will not be caught dead doing it. He can play the paino very well though.
Creator's comments: Rhetoric Cardinal was originally made as a rival and cousin to Amaranth. He has evolved many times from that point. Oddly enough since he's come full swing, he's still Amaranth's rival but in a completely different way now. Very interesting. Rhetoric is now my favorite male doll now. He might not be so handsome as my other dolls, but he's got attitude and that's all I need.
